Customer Solutions Teams 

What do we do?

Being a non-asset based transportation provider simply means we do not own our own trucks or other transportation equipment. Our job is to assess the transportation needs of our customer, then shop our carrier network to procure the best service and price option to satisfy our customer's needs. Our primary focus includes providing solutions in the form of full truckload, intermodal, and specialized, such as reefer, flatbed and over-dimensional shipments. 

How do we operate?

Our business operates out of Ann Arbor, Michigan as well as our new location in Portland, Oregon. Customer Solutions Teams (CST's) focus predominantly on defined geographic markets in order to promote expertise and awareness in what is a very dynamic industry. CST's identify and develop new business, as well as qualify and develop lead sources generated through various enterprise channels.  As customers are identified, the team assesses the customer's needs and present solutions.  At that point, the team goes into action negotiating and securing a solution for the customer and servicing the shipment through delivery.  Individuals within each team work both independently and collaboratively with their group to maximize the team's overall performance.

What training and support is provided? 

An extensive training program is conducted with all new hires. The primary topics include:

  • Industry training and terminal site visit
  • Sales Foundation and Concepts
  • Sales Planning and Process
  • Negotiation
  • Systems Training
  • Customer Service Training

The learning process is accomplished through a combination of extensive formal classroom training, hands-on training with a mentor, and on-going support both from team members and management.

What opportunities exist within the Customer Solutions Teams?

There are three primary tiers within each Customer Solution Team.  In order to differentiate ourselves in a highly competitive industry, we've committed to a dedicated Service role within each team to ensure every customer shipment is managed exceptionally from dispatch to delivery. Complimenting that role is our Customer Solutions Specialist engaged in every aspect of the customer life cycle from lead development, to solution presentation, to execution. The team is rounded out by our Senior Customer Solutions Specialists who drives the overall performance of the team through hands on support, mentoring and management.

College graduates and highly driven professionals seeking an opportunity to work in a fast paced, dynamic and team oriented environment where earnings potential is dictated by performance. Due to our extensive training program, and on-going support, industry experience is not required. What is required is a tenacious spirit, sales confidence and a commitment to superior customer service.

Pay for Performance

The Pay for Performance program is a commission program at Con-way Multimodal available to members of our Customer Solutions Teams. Commission compensation is paid above and beyond base compensation packages, and is based on the performance of the Customer Solutions Team. The collaborative effort of each Customer Solutions Team in developing and servicing their customer base, drives the overall earnings potential of the individuals within each team.

The Incentive Compensation Program

The Incentive Compensation Program is Con-way's very own bonus plan available to administrative, specialized and IT professionals at Con-way Multimodal. It is based on meeting company-wide performance and profit goals, which are set each year by the management team.
