July 27, 2007 - Con-way Inc. (NYSE: CNW) today announced that it has named John G. Labrie to the position of president, Con-way Freight. Labrie was previously senior vice president of strategy and enterprise operations for the company, a $4.2 billion leader in freight transportation and global logistics based in San Mateo, Calif.
July 18, 2007 - Con-way Inc. (NYSE:CNW) today reported net income from continuing operations for the second quarter of 2007 of $47.7 million (after preferred stock dividends), or 99 cents per diluted share. The results compared with second-quarter 2006 net income from continuing operations (after preferred stock dividends) of $74.1 million, or $1.40 per diluted share.
July 18, 2007 - A team of employees from Con-way Inc.’s Portland campus landed top honors at this year’s Sand in the City event, winning the “Golden Shovel” award for their intricate rendition of “Campfire Tails,” a sand sculpture portraying movie animals and other characters reading “kiddie tales” around a campfire. The event was held last weekend in downtown Portland’s Pioneer Square. The Con-way team consisted of approximately 30 employees from throughout the company’s Portland operations who, in conjunction with design partner LRS Architects, designed and built the first-place entry. In addition to receiving the top award from the event’s judges, the Con-way sculpture also won the “People’s Choice” award voted on by event attendees over the weekend.
July 16, 2007 - Con-way Inc. (NYSE:CNW), today announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Contract Freighters, Inc. (CFI), a privately held North American truckload carrier based in Joplin, Mo., in a transaction valued at $750 million. The acquisition elevates Con-way into a unique position in the freight transportation industry, creating a leading less-than-truckload (LTL), truckload (TL) and supply chain management enterprise with a broad portfolio of high-value solutions, noted Douglas W. Stotlar, Con-way’s president and CEO.
July 12, 2007 - Con-way Freight, a less-than-truckload carrier and subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE: CNW), today announced the opening of its expanded freight assembly center (FAC) in Montgomery, N.Y.
