New Appointments Enhance Strategic Development and Market Expansion Efforts in the Region
SAN MATEO, Calif., and SINGAPORE - April 27, 2010
Menlo Worldwide Logistics, the global logistics subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE: CNW), today announced that Peter Baumann and Edwin Chan have assumed new roles within the company’s South Asia organization. Baumann is now director of regional sales and solutions, while Chan has been named senior director of business development and strategy.
Baumann’s new role includes further developing growth strategies while managing the sales and solutions organizations within Southeast Asia. He will guide a team of sales executives, logistics engineers and project managers in providing customer solutions, sales engagement and startup process support for new business wins.
Chan is now responsible for developing and growing Menlo’s shipping and forwarding business across North and South Asia, and expanding its existing wine and spirits customer base in the region. Baumann and Chan also serve as senior account executives for a number of high profile customers across a range of industries.
“With nearly 50 years of combined experience, Peter and Edwin bring extensive knowledge of customer needs for transportation and logistics services in this region,” said Todd Johnson, vice president, international operations for Menlo Worldwide Logistics. “Their skills strongly align with our growth goals for South Asia and we are confident that their leadership and expertise will contribute significantly toward meeting our strategic objectives. We extend our congratulations to both Peter and Edwin on these important new assignments.”
Baumann brings experience in designing innovative local and regional customer logistics solutions. He joined Menlo in 2005 as director of automotive and was named director of international business development in 2008. In that role, he was responsible for supporting Menlo’s Asia-Pacific growth and working closely with Menlo’s operating regions and industry groups to develop global business leads. Prior to Menlo, Baumann spent 13 years working for DHL in various roles across both Europe and Asia. He is currently based in Singapore.
A 30-year veteran of the shipping and logistics industry in Asia, Chan brings a wealth of regional knowledge and an extensive network of relationships to his position. He was formerly executive vice president of Cougar Express Logistics until the Southeast Asia 3PL was acquired by Menlo in 2007. His role then shifted to South Asia/Australia sales director, where he was responsible for ensuring the retention of customers gained by Menlo as a result of Cougar’s acquisition. Prior to being designated executive vice president, Chan spent 15 years as Cougar’s director of sales and was concurrently deputy general manager of their joint venture partner, MOL Singapore. He is also based in Singapore.
