Two Million Mile Safe Drivers

DSR, NKX

Con-way Freight DSR David Eubanks has spent more than three decades as a professional driver. He started his career making local furniture deliveries, which he did for almost 19 years before joining Con-way Freight in 1990. David said he wanted a change of pace, and was impressed by the competitive pay and benefits offered by the company. He also added that the lifestyle a professional driving career offers is very appealing to him.

“I like that time seems to go faster when you’re driving,” said David. “You get a chance to see the scenery and you aren’t just stuck in a room all day.”

Like many of his fellow professional drivers, David wishes other motorists would be more courteous. He cites driver inattention and speed as some of the bigger challenges he faces on the road.

“People are just always in such a hurry,” said David. “They need to pay attention and stop cutting so closely in front of other vehicles, especially trucks, which need more time than a car to slow down.”

Reaching two million miles is something that David attributes to a combination of luck and always being careful every time he gets behind the wheel. It is an accomplishment that makes him proud.

“It makes me feel good that I reached two million miles,” said David. “I’ll probably retire before I have a chance to reach three million miles, but I plan on doing all I can to stay accident-free for the rest of my career.”

A resident of Knoxville, Tenn., David is based out of Con-way Freight’s Knoxville service center. He has been married for 21 years to his wife, Regina, and enjoys playing golf in his spare time.
